Even ₹20 Lakh Annual Income Isn’t Enough, Says Rishabh Jain

A viral LinkedIn post by Rishabh Jain, co-founder of LLA, has reignited a national debate on the rising cost of private school education in India. Jain revealed that he was asked to pay a staggering ₹4.27 lakh for his daughter’s Class 1 admission, despite having a household income of ₹20 lakh per year.
“This is the price of quality education in India,” Jain wrote. “Even if you earn ₹20 lakh a year, can you really afford this? NO!!!”
Jain broke down the fees in detail:
-
₹2,000 for registration
-
₹40,000 admission charges
-
₹5,000 refundable caution money
-
₹2.52 lakh annual tuition
-
₹1.08 lakh for transport
-
₹20,000 for books and uniforms
He further highlighted that the middle class bears the highest tax burden, losing nearly 50% of income to taxes like GST, income tax, fuel VAT, tolls, and professional tax, but receives no subsidies or welfare benefits in return.
“With ₹10 lakh left, either run your household or pay fees for two kids. You choose,” he wrote, expressing frustration over the lack of financial breathing room for average Indian families.
In response to such growing concerns, the Delhi government has initiated an audit of private school fee structures. Education Minister Ashish Sood assured the public that data on unjustified fee hikes will be released within 10 days, adding,
“We are committed to curbing the commercialization of education.”
As stories like Jain’s resonate with thousands of parents, the question remains—Is quality education in India becoming a luxury instead of a right?
