In light of national security concerns, Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru has issued a public advisory urging all passengers to arrive at least three hours before departure. The move comes as part of a countrywide security tightening following the recent escalation in India-Pakistan tensions.
According to a statement cited by PTI, the airport authorities have implemented enhanced screening protocols under directives from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS). These include:
-
Stricter screening procedures
-
Secondary ladder point checks
-
Ban on visitors inside terminal buildings
“To ensure a smooth check-in, security, and boarding process, passengers are advised to arrive three hours before their flight,” the KIA advisory said.
Why Now?
This advisory comes just days after India launched Operation Sindoor, a precision military strike on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and PoK, in retaliation for the Pahalgam terrorist attack that claimed 26 lives — including that of a Bengaluru-based techie, Bharat Bhushan.
In response, BCAS issued pan-India alerts, particularly for metro airports like Bengaluru, Delhi, and Mumbai.
Flight Delays & Cancellations Expected
KIA also cautioned about possible flight delays and cancellations due to airspace restrictions. A notice from Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) confirmed that “some flights have been cancelled” and urged travelers to stay in touch with their airlines for real-time updates.
What You Should Do:
🛫 Arrive 3 hours early
📲 Confirm flight status before leaving for the airport
🧳 Pack lightly to ease security screening
🚫 No terminal entry for non-travelers
With national defense and passenger safety as top priorities, travelers are encouraged to remain calm and cooperative while the enhanced security measures are in place.
