For the past two days, Fergusson College Grounds has transformed into a literary paradise, where books are not just being read, but also exchanged—bringing stories, knowledge, and nostalgia to book lovers of all kinds. As Vishva Marathi Sammelan 2025 enters its final day today, so does the unique ₹10 Book Exchange Program, which has already seen an overwhelming response.
Organized by the Marathi Language Department of the Maharashtra Government in collaboration with Pai Granthalaya (Dombivli), this initiative has turned book ownership into a cycle of sharing—allowing attendees to exchange an old book for a new one at just ₹10. With a massive collection of 50,000 books, readers have found everything from classic literature to contemporary novels, biographies to poetry, history to thrillers.
Books That Travel, Stories That Connect
Over the last two days, thousands of books have changed hands, each carrying its own journey. Some readers have discovered rare Marathi classics, while others have swapped textbooks for novels, ensuring that books keep moving, rather than gathering dust on forgotten shelves.
“This isn’t just about book exchange, it’s about community,” said Dhanashree Sane, a representative from Pai Granthalaya.
“People are not just picking up books, they’re sharing stories, childhood memories, and recommendations. This initiative has brought together book lovers across generations.”
No Rules, Just Reading—A Revolution in Book Sharing
One of the biggest reasons for the success of this movement is the absolute freedom it offers—
✔ Exchange any book for any other book
✔ No restrictions on genre, language, or size
✔ Swap a 50-page book for a 500-page one
✔ The only rule? Books must be in good, readable condition
As a result, people have exchanged old schoolbooks for novels, religious texts for history books, and self-help guides for poetry collections—proving that literature should be fluid, not confined.
Final Day: Don’t Miss Your Chance to Be a Part of This Movement
As Vishva Marathi Sammelan 2025 concludes today, this ₹10 Book Exchange Program will also come to an end. If you haven’t yet participated, this is your last opportunity to bring an old book, walk away with a fresh read, and be part of this movement that is redefining access to literature.
Because a book isn’t meant to sit on a shelf forever—it is meant to travel, to be read, and to inspire.
