“Rahul Gandhi Called to Lucknow Court Over Comments on Indian Army”

Published:

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has been summoned by a Lucknow court in connection with his alleged remarks against the Indian Army during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in December 2022. The MP-MLA court has asked him to appear on March 24, 2025, to present his side of the case.

What Is the Case About?

The controversy dates back to December 16, 2022, when Rahul Gandhi allegedly made a statement that, according to the complainant, was derogatory towards the Indian Army. The complaint was filed by Uday Shankar Srivastava, a former director of the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), who holds a rank equivalent to Colonel in the Army.

According to Srivastava, Gandhi’s remarks were misleading and could damage the reputation of the armed forces. The case was registered in Lucknow, and the court has now issued a formal summons for Gandhi to appear.

The Court’s Action

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Alok Verma has issued the summons and directed Gandhi to be present for the next hearing on March 24. The complainant’s lawyer, Vivek Tiwari, argued that Gandhi’s words had led people to question and mock army officers, which is why legal action was necessary.

Political Implications

This is not the first time Rahul Gandhi has faced legal trouble over his speeches. The Congress leader has been involved in multiple defamation cases in the past, including ones related to his statements about industrialists and political rivals.

This case comes at a sensitive time, as the political landscape is already heating up ahead of the 2026 state elections and the 2029 general elections. The BJP is likely to use this issue to target Congress, while Gandhi’s supporters argue that the case is politically motivated.

What Happens Next?

With the March 24 hearing approaching, all eyes will be on Rahul Gandhi’s legal strategy. Will he fight the case head-on, or will this turn into another political battle between the Congress and BJP?
