Theft Cases on the Rise in Pune: Businessman’s House and Cloth Shop Targeted, Police Investigating

Published:

Pune is seeing an increase in theft cases, with multiple incidents of break-ins reported in different parts of the city. In a shocking incident, thieves broke into a businessman’s house in Bibvewadi while the family was away in Prayagraj for the Kumbh Mela, taking jewelry and cash worth ₹8 lakh. Meanwhile, a cloth shop in Ravivar Peth was also looted, with thieves getting away with ₹1.68 lakh in cash and a ₹1.83 lakh laptop.

Businessman’s Home Robbed in Bibvewadi

The complainant, a 45-year-old woman, reported the incident to the Bibvewadi police station. According to the police, the family left for Prayagraj on February 12, leaving their 15-year-old daughter with her maternal uncle in Gokulnagar due to upcoming exams. The girl had the house key with her.

On February 13, after school, she visited the house to collect some study materials and found the lock broken. She immediately informed her maternal uncle, and when the parents returned on February 15, they realized that valuables were missing and filed a complaint.

Police Inspector Shankar Salunkhe and Sub-Inspector Shashank Jadhav visited the crime scene and are reviewing CCTV footage from the residential society.

Cloth Shop Looted in Ravivar Peth

In another theft, thieves targeted a cloth store in the Kapadganj area of Ravivar Peth, taking ₹1.68 lakh in cash and a laptop worth ₹1.83 lakh.

The shop owner, Govind Rajaram Mundada (65, a resident of Market Yard), filed a complaint at the Faraskhana police station. The store was closed at the time of the incident, and the criminals broke in overnight. Sub-Inspector Shivraj Hale is leading the investigation.

A String of Thefts in Pune

These two cases add to a series of robberies in Pune:

  • In Shaniwar Peth, valuables worth ₹7 lakh, including gold jewelry and cash, were stolen in another house break-in.
  • In Bhor, police recently arrested an inter-state thief involved in a multi-house robbery, recovering stolen goods worth ₹26.35 lakh.

With theft cases increasing, Pune police are actively investigating and working towards catching those responsible. However, the repeated incidents have raised concerns among residents, who are now urging authorities to take stricter action against crime in the city.
