BJP Wins Big in Gujarat Local Elections, PM Modi Calls It an ‘Unbreakable Bond’

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has once again strengthened its position in Gujarat, winning a huge number of seats in the local body elections held on February 16. With massive wins across municipalities, municipal corporations, and taluka panchayats, the results confirm BJP’s strong support in the state, setting the stage for upcoming elections.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, celebrating the win, took to social media and said:

“Gujarat’s bond with BJP is unbreakable and getting stronger!”

His statement reflects the party’s deep-rooted connection with the state, where he served as Chief Minister before becoming Prime Minister.

BJP’s Big Wins Across Gujarat

BJP’s success covered almost all major local bodies, while opposition parties struggled to make an impact.

  • Junagadh Municipal Corporation (JMC): BJP won 48 out of 60 seats, while Congress managed only 11, and one seat went to an independent candidate.
  • Municipalities: BJP won in 60 out of 68 municipalities. Congress secured just one municipality in Salaya, Devbhumi Dwarka, while the Samajwadi Party (SP) won two municipalities.
  • Taluka Panchayats: BJP won in all three taluka panchayats—Gandhinagar, Kapadvanj, and Kathlal.

With such results, BJP has shown that its public support remains strong, despite recent political challenges.

OBC Reservation and BJP’s Hold on Gujarat

These elections were also a test for BJP’s 27% OBC reservation policy in local bodies, implemented in 2023. Despite concerns that this decision might affect its voter base, BJP not only retained its position but also increased its lead, indicating that its support remains strong across different communities.

Congress Struggles to Make a Mark

The Congress party faced yet another major defeat in Gujarat, failing to gain support from voters. With only one municipality win, Congress leaders are now finding it difficult to rebuild their position in the state.

Political analysts believe Congress has not been able to present a strong alternative to BJP, making it difficult to challenge the ruling party’s popularity.

What This Means for Upcoming Elections

This huge win for BJP is expected to boost its confidence ahead of the 2026 state elections and the 2029 general elections. Local elections often show what people think about a party’s leadership, and BJP’s continued success in Gujarat suggests that the party remains the top choice for voters in the state.

With Congress struggling and regional parties failing to gain momentum, BJP’s control over Gujarat politics looks stronger than ever.
