A few people claiming to be members of the Maratha Kranti Morcha were removed by the police from the Westin Hotel in Pune’s Koregaon Park on Saturday. They were trying to meet Union Minister Amit Shah to demand justice for the murdered Beed sarpanch, Santosh Deshmukh.
Shah was in Pune to attend the 27th meeting of the Western Zonal Council, which discusses important regional issues.
At around 12:30 PM, the protesters were speaking to the media when police asked them to leave. Officials confirmed that at least three men were removed from the venue.
Background of the Case
Santosh Deshmukh, the sarpanch of Massajog village in Beed, was murdered on December 9, 2024. His death caused a major political controversy in Maharashtra. Many demanded the resignation of NCP minister Dhananjay Munde, as his close aide Walmik Karad was arrested in connection with the murder.
What is the Western Zonal Council?
The Western Zonal Council includes Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, and the Union Territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu. It is an important platform where state governments and the central government discuss and resolve regional issues.
