In a powerful display of community solidarity, residents of Kothrud, Pune, gathered to protest against the escalating drug problem affecting their locality.
Community Stands Firm
Organized at Hutatma Rajguru Chowk, the protest saw participation from various groups, including Shivaji Raigad Smarak, Ankur Pratishthan, Shivshree Pratishthan, Akhil Bharatiya Purvasainik Seva Parishad, and Agrasar Bharat. The collective aim was clear: to safeguard the youth from the clutches of drug abuse.
Government’s Commitment
Maharashtra’s Higher and Technical Education Minister, Chandrakant Patil, addressed the gathering, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. He announced a personal reward of ₹10,000 for individuals providing credible information on drug sales in Kothrud, mirroring similar initiatives in districts like Sangli.
“As a responsible citizen, I join this anti-drug campaign. Large drug consignments have been seized in Sangli, and we’ve implemented measures to curb this menace. The same incentive will be provided in Kothrud to those assisting the police in cracking down on drug suppliers.”
Additionally, plans are underway to establish a counseling center in Kothrud to rehabilitate those battling addiction.
Law Enforcement’s Zero-Tolerance
Deputy Commissioner of Police, Nikhil Pingle, reiterated the Pune Police’s unwavering stance against drug-related offenses, emphasizing a zero-tolerance policy.
The protest witnessed a diverse turnout, including disabled individuals, senior citizens, and women, all united in the fight against drugs.
