India and Chile Eye Stronger Ties in Trade, Tech & Culture: President Murmu

Published:

New Delhi — President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday underlined that India and Chile have immense untapped potential to grow their partnership, especially in trade, investment, technology, and cultural exchange.

Welcoming Chilean President Gabriel Boric Font to Rashtrapati Bhavan on his first official visit to India, President Murmu praised his journey from student activism to national leadership, calling it an inspiration for youth worldwide.

The two leaders met at a significant moment — as India and Chile mark 75 years of diplomatic relations.

“Chile is an important partner for India in Latin America. Our economic and political goals complement each other,” Murmu said.

India-Chile trade has grown in recent years, and several Indian companies have already invested in key Chilean sectors. Murmu noted the scope for further collaboration in areas like clean energy, digital innovation, cultural exchange, and health.

She also acknowledged the Indian community in Chile for promoting Indian cuisine, Yoga, and Ayurveda, which are building deeper people-to-people connections.

President Boric’s visit, Murmu added, is expected to open

“A new chapter in bilateral ties.”

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held extensive talks with the Chilean President, focusing on trade, defence, critical minerals, and healthcare partnerships.
