Residents Urged to Break Silence Against Criminal Intimidation
Pune |
In a bold step to restore public confidence and curb organized crime, Pune Police paraded a known history-sheeter, Tipu Pathan, through his own neighborhood in Sayyad Nagar, Hadapsar, urging residents to come forward and lodge complaints against him or his associates without fear.
The operation, led by Senior Inspector Mansingh Patil from the Kale Padal Police Station, was aimed at breaking the silence around years of alleged intimidation and extortion by Pathan, who faces over 28 serious criminal charges, including murder, attempted murder, land grabbing, and extortion.
“Tipu Pathan is a repeat offender. He has been previously booked under the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA). Many local youths are being influenced by his activities,” said Inspector Patil.
What Prompted the Parade?
Pathan was recently arrested in a fresh case where he allegedly tried to seize a woman’s land and demanded ₹20 lakh from her in extortion. Police say this is not an isolated case and believe there are several unreported incidents due to fear of retaliation.
“Parading him in his locality was necessary. It sends a message that the law is stronger than fear,” Patil added.
In the video of the parade, officers are seen assuring residents of protection and encouraging them to come forward with any past or ongoing complaints involving Pathan or his gang.
This move marks a significant shift in local policing strategy, with public engagement being used as a tool to dismantle fear-based silence around organized crime. Community-led accountability and legal awareness are essential in combating such criminal influence at the grassroots level.
