While the red carpet at the Cannes Film Festival is always a spectacle of global fashion and cinema, it was Ruchi Gujjar, a rising Indian actor and model, who turned heads this year not just with her attire, but with her bold choice of jewellery: a necklace featuring pendants of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s face.

Attending the prestigious Chopard Caroline Universe Dinner, Gujjar made a statement that combined fashion with politics, saying,

“The necklace is more than jewellery—it’s a symbol of strength, vision, and India’s rise on the world stage.”

Royal Roots, Modern Message

Draped in a deep gold lehenga by designer Roopa Sharmaa, Gujjar paid homage to her Rajasthani roots. The outfit was lavishly adorned with Gota Patti, mirror work, and intricate hand embroidery. She completed the look with a handcrafted Bandhani dupatta from the atelier of Zaribari, designed by Ram, featuring delicate Zardozi detailing.

“Wearing this dupatta felt like I was draping the soul of Rajasthan,” she said on Instagram.

Who is Ruchi Gujjar?

Though Cannes put her in the international spotlight, Ruchi Gujjar’s rise began in 2023. A graduate from Maharani College, Jaipur, and a former Miss Haryana 2023, she made her name in the Indian music video circuit with hits like “Jab Tu Meri Na Rahi” and “Heli Mein Chor.”

Coming from a traditional Gujjar family in Rajasthan, her journey wasn’t easy.

“In our community, women are not allowed to work the way I do,” she told BollywoodMDB. “It was hard to change mindsets. I want to be an inspiration, someone who challenged social norms and made a name in Bollywood.”

Her biggest pillar of support? Her father.

“My mother was scared when I said I wanted to move to Mumbai. But now she’s proud. My father supported me from day one.”

With her unique Cannes moment making headlines, Gujjar is setting her sights higher.

“I’d love to work in South Indian films. Audiences appreciate strong roles and storytelling there,” she said.

From Rajasthan to Cannes, Ruchi Gujjar’s journey is one of style, substance, and self-belief—and she’s only just getting started.
