A forest fire broke out near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Friday, leading to multiple landmine explosions. The fire spread across the Krishna Ghati sector, which is close to the LoC and has several landmines planted for security.

Fortunately, no one was injured, and no loss of life has been reported, officials confirmed.

“The fire reached the hilly areas near the border and triggered several landmine blasts,” said an official.

The Indian Army, along with the forest department and residents, is working to control and put out the fire.

In a separate incident, a soldier was martyred during a gunfight with terrorists in the Kishtwar district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. The clash happened in Shingpora, Chhatru, during a search operation after intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists.

At least four terrorists are believed to be hiding in the area. The Indian Army’s White Knight Corps confirmed the encounter and said that additional troops have been deployed to neutralise the terrorists.

J&K DGP Nalin Prabhat visited Kishtwar to review the situation and guide further actions.

“Contact has been established with the terrorists, and the operation is ongoing,” the Army said in a statement.
