For music icon Asha Bhosle, the love of her listeners far outweighs any award. In a candid interaction on Legends with Republic Media Network’s Arnab Goswami, the 92-year-old legend shared why she and her late sister, Lata Mangeshkar, chose to stop accepting awards despite being celebrated as two of India’s greatest playback singers.

“Both me and didi (Lata Mangeshkar) used to get all the awards. But others who sang well also deserved recognition. So, we decided it was better to stop accepting awards,” Bhosle said with a smile.
🌟 Audience Love Above All
For Bhosle, the affection of her fans across the globe remains her most cherished prize.
“I’ve received so much love from the public, far more than even from my own family. Whether in India or abroad—Kolkata, Assam—such love is rare. It’s because we love our audience just as much,” she shared.
Her timeless voice and songs like Piya Tu Ab To Aaja have created a bond with generations of listeners, making her a true global music ambassador for India.
