Yogi Adityanath Inaugurates UP’s First Green Hydrogen Plant in Gorakhpur

Published:

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday inaugurated the state’s first and the country’s second green hydrogen plant in Khanimpur village, Gorakhpur. The facility has been developed by Torrent Gas and Torrent Power, marking a key milestone in India’s clean energy journey.

Calling it the “energy of the future,” the CM said that green hydrogen will be crucial in reducing carbon emissions, protecting biodiversity, and improving public health.

“If we want to save humanity and civilisation, we must cut down carbon emissions. Green energy is not only essential for the environment but also to reduce diseases caused by pollution,” Adityanath said at the event.

What the Plant Will Do

  • The Gorakhpur facility will produce green hydrogen by using renewable energy to split water into hydrogen and oxygen, without using fossil fuels.

  • The hydrogen will be blended with CNG and PNG to be used for domestic and industrial purposes, making it a cleaner fuel alternative.

The Chief Minister highlighted that Uttar Pradesh’s abundant water resources make it an ideal state for green hydrogen production. He also stressed that green technology must become affordable and accessible, like mobile phones did in the past.

“Just as mobile phones were once expensive but are now in everyone’s hands, green hydrogen too will become cheaper,” he said.

He also warned that climate change, erratic rainfall, and rising health issues like cancer and liver problems are the results of unchecked deforestation, chemical fertiliser use, and nature exploitation.

A Vision for a Cleaner, Healthier State

  • Yogi Adityanath urged people to adopt natural farming and green energy for a sustainable future.

  • He also cited the success of initiatives like LED streetlights, which have reduced electricity use and carbon emissions across UP.

  • As a symbolic gesture, he planted a Rudraksha sapling at the plant site, reinforcing the state’s commitment to the environment.

  • Gorakhpur MP Ravi Kishan called the project agame-changer and said it would bring an energy revolution to eastern Uttar Pradesh.

  • Sahjanwa MLA Pradeep Shukla added that such projects are helping the state move towards the vision of a “Developed UP by 2047.”
