India Clinch Asia Cup 2025 Title With Dominant 4-1 Win Over South Korea

In a stunning display of skill and coordination, India’s men’s hockey team defeated defending champions South Korea 4-1 to lift the Asia Cup 2025 title at the Rajgir Sports Complex on Sunday. The win also guarantees India’s direct qualification for the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup 2026, set to be co-hosted by Belgium and the Netherlands from August 14–30 next year.

This is India’s fourth Asia Cup title—previous victories came in 2003 (Kuala Lumpur), 2007 (Chennai), and 2017 (Dhaka). With this win, India becomes the second-most successful team in the tournament’s history, just behind Korea’s five titles.

Match Highlights

India hit the ground running with a field goal by Sukhjeet Singh in the very first minute. Captain Harmanpreet Singh’s attacking run and sharp assist helped Sukhjeet slot in a reverse hit into the top-left corner of the Korean goal.

Dilpreet Singh scored twice—in the 28th and 45th minutes—capitalising on quick plays and sharp passing inside the Korean circle. He was a constant threat up front and helped India establish control early in the match.

Amit Rohidas sealed the deal with a powerful penalty corner conversion in the 50th minute, extending the lead to 4-0.

Korea managed a consolation goal through Dain Son in the 51st minute, but India’s defence, led by PR Sreejesh and Harmanpreet, remained solid throughout the game.

Tactical Excellence

India maintained high possession and continuously pressured the Korean backline. The defence-to-attack transition was smooth, and the coordination between midfield and forwards kept Korea from building any rhythm.

Korea had few scoring opportunities, with their first real chance coming only in the 40th minute via back-to-back penalty corners—both of which were thwarted by India’s alert defence.

🗨️ Reactions & Applause

  • PM Narendra Modi praised the team’s effort, saying, “Proud moment for India! Congratulations to our Men’s Hockey Team on a stellar win!”

  • Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir called the performance “Sensational and composed.”

Dilpreet Singh’s family in Amritsar celebrated the win with pride, saying his performance had made the entire nation proud.
