A chilling twist has emerged in the murder case of Bengaluru dermatologist Dr. Kritika M Reddy (28), as police continue to question her husband, Dr. Mahendra Reddy G S (31) a surgical resident at the Institute of Gastroenterology Sciences and Organ Transplant (IGOT).
Mahendra, accused of killing his wife by administering a lethal anaesthetic overdose, was arrested from Manipal earlier this week and brought to Bengaluru. He has been remanded to nine days of police custody, during which investigators are focusing on how he procured the drug and what his motive was.
Propofol Detected: The Forensic Clue
A forensic report from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) earlier confirmed the presence of Propofol, an intravenous anaesthetic, in Kritika’s viscera. The finding turned what was initially registered as an unnatural death into a murder investigation.
Despite this, police say Mahendra remains “tight-lipped.”
“He insists he never administered the drug. We are still investigating,” a senior officer said.
Police Recover Digital Evidence
Investigators conducted a spot inspection at the couple’s Gunjur residence on Thursday, seizing laptops, mobile phones, and other electronic devices, which have now been sent for forensic data recovery.
Sources say the team is also scrutinizing Mahendra’s digital trail, including online searches and messages, to trace how the anaesthetic was obtained.
A Suspected Affair and a Concealed Motive
Police are probing whether another woman may have played a role in the case. Reports suggest Mahendra’s alleged closeness with a colleague could be a possible motive.
He had earlier told police that Kritika had been suffering from gastrointestinal issues, but investigators are unconvinced.
“Gastroenteritis isn’t a major health issue we suspect he is hiding the real reason behind her death,” the officer added.
Tragic End After Just Two Months of Marriage
Kritika died on April 24, barely two months after her wedding. Her family filed a police complaint, accusing Mahendra of injecting her with a fatal dose under the guise of medical treatment.
The case, which has shocked the medical fraternity, continues to unravel layers of deceit, ambition, and betrayal within a seemingly picture-perfect marriage.
