A shocking incident unfolded near Chinchpokli in Mumbai on Friday morning when a 24-year-old man, distraught over a breakup, stabbed his ex-girlfriend multiple times before slitting his own throat.

The accused, identified as Sonu Barai, reportedly chased the woman, Manisha Yadav (24), to a maternity hospital in Lalbaug’s Chinchpokli area around 10:30 am. According to police, the woman ran into the hospital premises seeking safety, but Barai followed her inside and attacked her repeatedly with a knife in full public view.

Eyewitnesses told the police that local residents and nursing home staff tried to intervene, but by then Barai had turned the weapon on himself. He succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while Manisha was rushed to a private hospital in critical condition and later admitted to the ICU.

The Kalachowki police said the two were neighbours and had been in a relationship for some time before recently breaking up. Investigations revealed that the accused suspected the woman of seeing someone else, leading to frequent arguments between them. On Friday, he reportedly called her for a meeting that turned violent after a heated exchange.

Both the KEM Hospital and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 4) R. Ragasudha confirmed the sequence of events. A police team has been stationed at the hospital, and forensic teams are reviewing CCTV footage for further evidence.

Authorities described the attack as a case of “personal rage leading to public violence.” Police have appealed for calm and urged citizens not to share disturbing visuals from the crime scene circulating online.
