If you’ve ever needed to update your Aadhaar card details—be it your name after marriage, a new address after shifting cities, or simply your mobile number—here’s what you need to know.
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) allows you to make changes to your Aadhaar details, but there are clear limits on how many times you can update certain fields. Here’s a simple breakdown:
🔁 Name – Maximum 2 Updates Allowed
You can update your name only twice in a lifetime. This rule is especially helpful for people who undergo name changes after marriage or due to spelling errors. You’ll need to provide valid proof like a passport, PAN card, or marriage certificate.
🎂 Date of Birth – Only Once
You are allowed to correct your date of birth just one time. This change is allowed if your original entry has an error. Make sure to double-check the entry and keep your birth certificate or school records ready for verification.
🏡 Address – Unlimited Updates
Changed homes? Moved to another city? No worries—you can update your address as many times as needed. Updates can be done online or at any Aadhaar Seva Kendra, with documents like an electricity bill, rent agreement, or water bill.
🚻 Gender – Only Once
Got your gender wrong on Aadhaar? You can change it only once, so ensure your form is correctly filled and verified. Supporting ID proofs are required.
📱 Mobile Number – No Limit
Your mobile number is used for OTPs and digital verification. Thankfully, there’s no limit on how often you can update your registered mobile number. This change must be made in person at an Aadhaar enrollment center.
✅ Quick Tip:
Always double-check your entries and carry the correct supporting documents when applying for any changes. Incorrect updates may lead to your request being rejected—or worse, losing your chance for future corrections.
