In a move set to intensify competition in the browser space, Perplexity AI, led by CEO Aravind Srinivas, has announced that its AI-powered browser Comet is now free for all users. The decision comes after the company revealed that the waitlist for the product had crossed millions.

Comet, which integrates a built-in AI assistant, offers more than just web browsing. Users can now manage tabs, shop online, draft emails, and perform a variety of tasks using natural language prompts. Unlike traditional browsers, Comet positions itself as an AI-first browsing experience, combining search, task automation, and productivity in one platform.

Srinivas, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), confirmed that both free and premium users will now have access to the Comet browser and its assistant features. He further disclosed that a mobile version of the AI browser is in the works, aiming to extend the platform’s reach beyond desktops.

The launch puts Comet in direct comparison with established giants like Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge. While Chrome dominates global market share, Comet’s AI-driven functionality could attract users looking for smarter, more personalized browsing.

With the AI browser market heating up, industry watchers believe Perplexity’s bold step may not only help it expand its user base quickly but also set a new standard in how browsing and productivity tools converge in the age of artificial intelligence.
