Asansol, West Bengal: Weddings are usually all about music, rituals, and of course — food. But a recent Bengali wedding in Asansol took things to the next level by turning the menu into a “Calorie Memo”, leaving guests amused and netizens delighted.
The quirky food list, put together by Suruchi Caterer of Andal Workshop Road, has gone viral after it was shared on Reddit — not for what was served, but for how it was presented.
Menu With a Twist: Calories Counted, Humor Included
Held on April 5, 2025, at Chaity Hall, the wedding featured a wide spread of dishes — with each item tagged with its estimated calorie value. From Dal Makhani (80 KCal) and Jeera Bhaat (90 KCal) to rich indulgences like Mutton Kosha (160 KCal) and Sandesh (160 KCal), guests got a heads-up on exactly what they were consuming.
Even Baked Rasogolla was listed with 160 KCal, while Water proudly carried 0 KCal.
The dessert section featured the intriguing “Mukhsuddhi aka Open The Box” at a solid 210 KCal, capping the average total intake at 1,200 KCal — all served with a generous side of humor.
“No GST. No N-named Ministers Here.”
The calorie-wise menu even included a cheeky tax note:
“GST is nil because what you consumed in the stalls, we hope you burnt in the games as well.”
Taking a political dig with a pun, it added:
“Obviously we don’t like to tax unnecessarily because none of our names start or end with N.”
Social media users were quick to connect the reference to Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, though the tone stayed humorous throughout.
Internet Reacts: “Gym-Goers’ Dream Wedding”
The Reddit post has gained over 900 upvotes, with users calling it “the dream wedding for fitness freaks.” One commenter joked,
“Sirf calories di hain, protein nahi diya. No use.”
Another wrote:
“This is the kind of honesty we need from every buffet.”
