Another FIR has been filed against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), DNA Entertainment, and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) in connection with the recent stampede near Chinnaswamy Stadium that left several fans injured.
The FIR was registered at Cubbon Park Police Station following a complaint by Rolan Gomes, a resident of Mallasandra, Kengeri. Gomes, who works as a designer, alleged that the organisers failed to manage the crowd safely during the RCB victory parade on June 4.
Sequence of Events
According to Gomes’ complaint, “
RCB had initially announced a victory parade on their official social media accounts. Fans were first told that passes would be distributed near the stadium, but later, the organisers declared free entry to the event. As thousands of fans gathered near the stadium, confusion ensued. When the gates opened around 3:10 PM, a stampede broke out as people surged through narrow entry points.”
Gomes suffered a dislocated shoulder in the chaos and was treated at a private hospital with the help of bystanders.
Negligence Alleged
The complaint accuses the RCB franchise, DNA Entertainment Networks, and KSCA of negligence and poor crowd management, stating that they failed to provide proper facilities or safety measures to handle the large turnout.
Legal action has been sought against the organisers for the alleged lapses that led to the stampede and injuries.
