BrahMos Missile Earns Global Praise After Operation Sindoor; 14 Nations Show Interest

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday hailed the role of the BrahMos missile in India’s recent Operation Sindoor. He is calling it a “miraculous feat” that has now captured the attention of 14–15 countries globally. He was speaking at a ceremony in Lucknow, where he also released a postage stamp honouring former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Chandra Bhanu Gupta on his birth anniversary.

During his address, Singh said,

“The BrahMos missile played an outstanding role during Operation Sindoor.”

referring to India’s precision strikes on Pakistan’s military infrastructure after the Pahalgam terror attack.

“Today, 14 to 15 countries are showing interest in acquiring BrahMos. It has truly showcased India’s military might,” he added.

BrahMos to Be Made in Lucknow

Highlighting indigenous defence manufacturing, Singh confirmed that the BrahMos missile will now be produced in Lucknow. The missile production facility, jointly inaugurated recently by him and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is also expected to create new employment opportunities for locals.

BrahMos: From Concept to Combat

The BrahMos journey began in 1998, as a joint venture between India and Russia. From concept to combat readiness, the missile has evolved into the world’s fastest supersonic cruise missile. Its combat use during Operation Sindoor in 2025 marked a major milestone in its operational deployment.

India has also delivered the BrahMos supersonic cruise missiles to the Philippines.

Challenges in Aircraft Integration

Integrating BrahMos with the Indian Air Force’s Su-30MKI fighter jets was a significant engineering feat. Due to the high costs associated with outsourcing this task, BrahMos Aerospace collaborated with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), DRDO, and the Indian Air Force to carry out the complex integration in India.

The process involved developing new wind tunnel models and separation studies to ensure the missile could be safely and effectively launched from the aircraft.

“It wasn’t just mechanical work; it also involved integrating electrical and software interfaces,” said a senior official involved in the project.

“The Brahmos plant will also generate employment for locals,” Singh said.

He also pointed out that due to the improved law and order situation in the state, no criminal can roam freely today.

“Uttar Pradesh is writing a new chapter today in every aspect, including law and order,” he added.
