CBI Cracks Down on Crypto Scam, Raids 11 Locations in Delhi and Haryana

Published:

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched a major crackdown on a cyber fraud network involved in cryptocurrency scams and impersonation of government officials. On Friday, CBI teams raided nine locations in Delhi and two in Hisar, Haryana, as part of an investigation into a two-year-old cyber fraud case.

How the Scam Operated

The accused posed as government officials and tricked people—both in India and abroad. By offering fake technical support services. Victims were then pressured to transfer money in cryptocurrency, which was laundered through multiple crypto wallets before being converted into cash.

A CBI spokesperson stated,
“These fraudsters not only cheated people by pretending to be government officers but also misused technology to hide their tracks. They routed the money through different crypto wallets before withdrawing it in cash.”

Key Findings from the Raids

During the operation, CBI teams seized:

  • ₹1.08 crore in cash
  • $1,000 in foreign currency
  • 252 grams of gold
  • Six laptops, eight mobile phones, and one iPad

Investigators also found evidence of VoIP-based calls and darknet access, which were used to disguise identities and transactions.

Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation

The CBI had previously filed a charge sheet against three accused in this case. Officials say the latest searches aim to track down more people involved and gather further evidence to strengthen their case.

Cyber Fraud on the Rise

Cryptocurrency scams are becoming increasingly common as fraudsters exploit loopholes in digital transactions. Authorities are now under pressure to tighten regulations around crypto dealings and online fraud to prevent such cases in the future.

The CBI’s action has exposed a deep-rooted cyber fraud network, but the bigger concern remains—how many more such scams are still operating undetected?
