Chaos at Bihar’s Madhubani Station: Devotees Attack Train After Failing to Board for Mahakumbh

Published:

Bihar

The rush for Mahakumbh 2025 turned chaotic at Madhubani railway station in Bihar when frustrated devotees, unable to board an overcrowded train to Prayagraj, resorted to stone pelting and vandalism.

The Swatantrata Senani Express, already packed with pilgrims, became the target of anger when its AC coaches were so full that doors couldn’t even open. As more people gathered at the platform and failed to secure a spot, tensions flared. Soon, stones were thrown at the train, windows shattered, and the situation turned into a scene of chaos.

Anger Spills Beyond Madhubani

The violence did not stop once the train left Madhubani. Between Madhubani and Darbhanga, several more windows were smashed as the train was pelted with stones again. By the time it reached Samastipur station, large crowds were seen climbing into the AC coaches through the broken windows, risking their safety.

Videos circulating on social media show shattered glass falling on passengers, leading to heated arguments between those on board and those left behind on the platform.

Not the First Incident

This is not the only case of devotees attacking trains in frustration. A similar incident was reported at Harpalpur station in Madhya Pradesh, where a special train from Jhansi to Prayagraj was pelted with stones by angry passengers who couldn’t get inside due to overcrowding.

Public Outrage and Railway Response

The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with many condemning the destructive behavior. Some users called for strict action against those responsible, arguing that immediate and consistent penalties are needed to stop such incidents. Others suggested better planning and more trains to handle the massive rush for Mahakumbh.

Following the attacks, railway authorities have appealed for calm, asking devotees to cooperate and respect each other’s sentiments. Officials assured that steps are being taken to improve crowd management and prevent such incidents in the coming weeks.

What Happens Next?

With the Mahakumbh attracting millions of devotees, ensuring safe and organized travel remains a huge challenge. The big question now is—will the authorities increase security and train availability to prevent further incidents, or will the chaos continue as more pilgrims head to Prayagraj?
