The Independence Day weekend box office clash between Rajinikanth’s Coolie and Hrithik Roshan–Jr NTR’s War 2 has turned into one of the year’s biggest cinematic battles. Released on August 14, both films carried massive hype — Coolie, a Lokesh Kanagaraj mass entertainer, and War 2, Ayan Mukerji’s high-octane spy thriller expanding YRF’s spy universe.
Coolie Box Office Run
Rajinikanth’s Coolie stormed the box office with a ₹65 crore opening day, powered largely by Tamil Nadu audiences. The extended four-day weekend brought in over ₹194 crore, but collections slipped sharply after the holiday rush.
