Delay in High-Security Number Plate Installation Frustrates Pune Vehicle Owners

Published:

Pune l
Confusion and delays in the installation of High-Security Registration Plates (HSRP) continue to trouble vehicle owners across Pune. Despite securing installation dates well in advance, many citizens are still waiting for their plates to be fitted.

According to the Transport Department’s directive, all vehicles registered before April 1, 2019, must have HSRPs installed by June 30, 2025. Maharashtra has over one crore vehicles requiring the upgrade, with Pune alone accounting for around 25 lakh vehicles.

The contract for Pune’s HSRP installation work was awarded to Roz Marta Company. However, due to insufficient infrastructure and fitment centers, even citizens with pre-booked appointments are facing long delays. Many have reported that despite making payments, their scheduled installation dates have passed without action, leading to widespread frustration.

Shortage of Fitment Centers Adds to the Problem

Although Pune has a massive number of vehicles needing HSRPs, the company has failed to set up enough fitment centers. Some centers have abruptly shut down, worsening the situation. Despite directives from the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to expand facilities, progress remains slow, forcing citizens to wait for hours.

Current Progress

Since the installation drive began three months ago:

  • 3,83,055 vehicles have registered for HSRPs.

  • 2,23,349 vehicles are still awaiting installation.

  • Only 1,20,580 vehicles have been successfully fitted with plates.

With over 24 lakh vehicles still pending and the June 30 deadline looming, citizens are growing increasingly anxious.

An Undri resident shared his concern:
“I registered online for the HSRP in February and was given a date of March 31. However, no one has come to install the plate yet. I am left wondering what to do next.”

Unless the pace of installation improves significantly, it appears unlikely that the city will meet the government’s deadline.
