IndiGo on Tuesday night issued a travel advisory warning passengers of potential flight delays and disruptions on Wednesday morning due to dense fog across North and East India.
The airline urged travellers to plan their journeys with extra buffer time and closely monitor flight schedules, as reduced visibility could slow air traffic operations during early hours.
“Fog is expected across parts of North and East India under misty winter conditions, which may impact visibility and lead to a slower pace of flight movements,” IndiGo said in a post on social media platform X.
Reduced Visibility May Affect Schedules
According to the airline, foggy conditions could result in delays or schedule adjustments, especially for early morning departures and arrivals. IndiGo said safety remains its top priority and assured passengers that teams across airports are prepared to manage operations smoothly.
“In the interest of safety, some flights may experience delays or changes,” the airline added.
Airport authorities across the region are closely monitoring weather conditions and coordinating with airlines to minimise disruption.
Passengers Asked to Check Flight Status
IndiGo advised passengers to check the latest flight status through its website or mobile application before leaving for the airport. Travellers were also asked to allow additional time for commuting, as fog may affect road traffic, leading to slower movement and longer travel times.
“Our teams across airports are fully prepared and working in close coordination to manage schedules, assist customers, and ensure steady operations,” the airline said.
Pollution Adds to Early Morning Disruptions
The impact of dense fog has been compounded by high pollution levels, particularly in the capital region, further reducing visibility during early morning hours. The combination has affected air traffic flow and ground operations at several airports.
Aviation officials said such conditions typically slow down runway movements and aircraft turnaround times, even when advanced landing systems are in place.
Advisory Likely to Continue
With winter fog expected to persist over the coming days, airlines and airport authorities are likely to continue issuing advisories. Passengers travelling during early morning hours have been urged to stay alert and adjust travel plans accordingly.
Authorities said further updates would be shared based on evolving weather conditions.
