While some states are still drafting AI roadmaps, Chhattisgarh has already powered up. Earlier this month, the state quietly etched its name into India’s digital future with the inauguration of the country’s first AI-dedicated Datacentre Park—an ambitious project by RackBank, now live in Raipur.
What sets this apart? It’s not just a server farm. It’s a purpose-built AI compute fortress that can house over 100,000 GPUs and is capable of running massive language models, generative AI tools, and real-time cloud-based simulations—all from central India.
The project, launched on May 4 by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, is being hailed as a turning point for regional tech infrastructure and a key cog in India’s broader AI revolution.
What’s Inside the AI Datacentre Park?
-
Location: Raipur, Chhattisgarh (13.5 acres in Phase 1)
-
Power Capacity: 80 MW (scalable to 160 MW in 4 phases)
-
Tech Edge: In-house patented liquid immersion cooling system for 70% lower cooling costs
-
Investment: ₹1,000 crore committed initially, scaling to ₹3,000 crore over 5 years
-
Compute Power: Designed to serve India’s growing demand for AI compute, including healthtech, agritech, fintech, and digital governance.
This isn’t just a facility—it’s a powerhouse fueling India’s AI future. As Narendra Sen, CEO of RackBank, put it:
“India can’t rely forever on global GPUs. This datacentre park is our step toward AI independence.”
Why It Still Matters
The May 4 launch was only the beginning. Over the next few months, Raipur will witness:
-
The setup of India’s largest private-public AI compute grid
-
Hiring of over 500 high-skilled workers in AI infrastructure
-
A push to position Chhattisgarh as the ‘Bengaluru of the East’
And in an age where data is the new oil, central India’s strategic location gives this facility a low-latency edge for real-time applications across the country.
The Government’s Vision
Chhattisgarh’s leadership is framing this as a flagship moment in India’s digital journey.
“With this AI park, we’re not just hosting data—we’re building the backbone of India’s AI future,” said CM Vishnu Deo Sai at the launch.
Commerce & Industry Secretary Rajat Kumar added:
“The facility embodies our commitment to green growth, digital jobs, and tech-led governance.”
