Pune |
A Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus driver was caught driving drunk and crashed the vehicle on the Pune-Solapur Highway. Thankfully, no passengers were hurt, but the incident has raised serious concerns about safety in public transport.
A Close Call for Passengers
Passengers noticed the bus moving unevenly before the crash, making them anxious. Moments later, the bus hit a divider and came to a sudden stop. When MSRTC officials checked, they found that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, putting everyone’s lives at risk.
A worried passenger said, “We trust these buses for safe travel. What if something worse had happened? Who would take responsibility?”
MSRTC Takes Action, But Is It Enough?
After the accident, MSRTC fired the driver, saying they do not tolerate such behavior. However, this raises a bigger question—how often do drivers get checked before starting their shifts?
A transport official admitted, “Alcohol tests should be happening regularly, but in reality, very few drivers are actually checked.”
Will Things Change?
This is not the first time an MSRTC driver has been caught driving dangerously. Many reports have come out about drivers working long hours, driving drowsy, or even drinking on duty, yet no strict action has been taken.
The big question is—will Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation and the transport department improve safety checks, or will passengers continue to risk their lives every time they step on a bus?
