With continuous heavy rains flooding roads and blocking traffic in Pune’s Hinjewadi IT Park, the Forum for IT Employees (FITE) has asked the state government to make work-from-home (WFH) compulsory for all IT employees in the area.
FITE posted a message on X (formerly Twitter) with photos of flooded streets and long traffic jams, saying:
“If you care about IT workers, please declare mandatory work from home for Hinjewadi IT Park until the rain stops and during the monsoon.”
Social Media Supports the Demand
Many IT employees and city residents agreed with FITE’s post. They shared their own stories about long travel times, poor roads, and stress.
“Pune doesn’t have the roads and transport needed for so many IT workers,” one user said.
“It took me almost three hours to reach office,” another user complained.
“Companies should allow WFH until the rains are over. Tired workers stuck in traffic can’t do their best for clients,” posted Abhijit Redkar.
Workers Feel Ignored
Another user, Mukund, said the government and companies are not listening to the struggles of IT employees:
“If government officials and company bosses had to travel like us every day, they would understand how bad it is.”
Others said this is not about comfort, but it’s about health, safety, and doing good work.
“How can we be productive if we’re already tired by the time we reach office?” asked one employee.
Weather Warnings Continue
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has said heavy rain and strong winds will continue in Maharashtra due to a cyclonic storm in the Arabian Sea.
As conditions get worse, FITE and many IT workers hope that the government and companies will listen and allow work-from-home to protect employees and help them stay safe and productive.
