Flight Operations Disrupted at Delhi Airport After Dust Storm Hits NCR

Published:

Flight services at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport were affected on Sunday evening as a massive dust storm swept through Delhi and parts of the National Capital Region (NCR).

Between 5:00 pm and 5:30 pm, at least four incoming flights were diverted due to poor weather conditions. These included two flights from Jaipur and one each from Chandigarh and Amritsar, officials confirmed.

The Delhi Airport Authority posted a weather advisory on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), saying:

“Due to inclement weather conditions in Delhi, flight operations at Delhi Airport are impacted. Our on-ground teams are working closely with all stakeholders to manage passenger services smoothly.”

Passengers have been advised to stay in touch with their respective airlines for the latest updates on departures and arrivals.

Severe Weather Across Delhi-NCR

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a dust storm accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds hit the region around 5:00 pm, with wind speeds reaching up to 66 km/h in some areas like Safdarjung.

An official bulletin warned that weather conditions would remain unstable for the next few hours across Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, Manesar, Ballabhgarh, and other parts of NCR.

Residents across Delhi and nearby cities posted videos on social media showing trees shaking violently, visibility dropping, and dust clouds covering the sky, giving the city an eerie, orange hue.

What You Can Do

  • Check flight status before heading to the airport.
  • Drive carefully if commuting—roads may be slippery or have low visibility.
  • Stay indoors during strong gusts to avoid debris or falling branches.
