New Delhi: Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has shifted to a farmhouse in South Delhi’s Chattarpur, offered to him by Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) leader Abhay Singh Chautala, until he is allotted government accommodation.
According to sources, the Chautala family—known to have close ties with Dhankhar—extended the offer during a recent meeting. Over the past two days, many of Dhankhar’s belongings have been moved to the farmhouse, though some household items remain in a flat inside the Vice President’s official residence.
“He will likely stay at the Chattarpur farmhouse until he is allotted a Type-VIII bungalow, which is the entitlement for a former Vice President,” a source said.
Dhankhar stepped down from his post on July 21, the first day of the Monsoon Session, citing health reasons.
As a former Vice President, Dhankhar is entitled to a pension of nearly ₹2 lakh per month, a Type-VIII government bungalow, one personal secretary, one additional personal secretary, a personal assistant, a physician, a nursing officer, and four personal attendants.
Meanwhile, the Rajasthan Secretariat has also begun processing his pension as a former legislator. Dhankhar represented the Kishangarh Assembly seat between 1993 and 1998 and had received a pension until July 2019, which was discontinued after his appointment as Governor of West Bengal. With his resignation now accepted, he becomes entitled to ₹42,000 per month as a former MLA.
In total, Dhankhar qualifies for three pensions—₹2 lakh as former Vice President, ₹45,000 as a one-term Member of Parliament, and ₹42,000 as a former Rajasthan legislator—besides other benefits.
