Sri Lankan All-Rounder Returns to GT Squad for IPL 2025

Hyderabad |
Gujarat Titans (GT) have brought back Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka as a replacement for the injured Glenn Phillips for the remainder of IPL 2025, the league announced on Thursday night.

Shanaka, who featured in three matches for GT during the 2023 season, will rejoin the squad for a fee of ₹75 lakh. The 32-year-old brings valuable international experience with 1456 T20I runs and 33 wickets in 102 matches for Sri Lanka. He has also played 71 ODIs and 6 Test matches, showcasing his all-round depth across formats. A hard-hitting lower-order batter and a medium pacer, Shanaka is expected to bolster GT’s balance as they eye a strong playoff push.

📊 Titans on a Roll in IPL 2025

Led by Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans are currently 2nd on the points table, with 4 wins out of 6 matches and an impressive Net Run Rate of +1.081. The team has accumulated 8 points and remains a favourite to qualify for the knockout stages.

Their next challenge? A clash against Delhi Capitals on April 19 in a day game at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Shanaka’s return could be a timely move for Gujarat, especially with Glenn Phillips sidelined. With a proven ability to finish innings and chip in with the ball, Shanaka adds depth to an already confident squad chasing a second IPL title.
