ICC Women’s 50-Over World Cup 2025 To Kick Off From September 30; Colombo Added As Neutral Venue

Published:

In a major development for international women’s cricket, the ICC Women’s 50-Over World Cup 2025 is set to take place from September 30 to November 2, with India and Sri Lanka sharing hosting duties. The International Cricket Council (ICC) officially confirmed the dates and venues on June 2, 2025, announcing a significant change to the tournament’s original plan.

Colombo Steps In As Neutral Venue

While India was initially announced as the sole host for the eight-team global tournament, Colombo has now been included as a neutral venue. This move comes in light of Pakistan’s ongoing stance of not traveling to India, a position similar to what was seen during the hybrid hosting of the Champions Trophy earlier this year.

The inclusion of Colombo is part of a hybrid hosting model accepted by the ICC, aimed at ensuring participation from all qualified nations while navigating diplomatic tensions.

Match Venues Across India and Sri Lanka

Matches will now be held across a total of six cities, including five Indian venues:

– Bengaluru

– Guwahati

– Indore

– Visakhapatnam

– Colombo (Sri Lanka)

This marks a historic collaboration between India and Sri Lanka for hosting the women’s World Cup and ensures that all participating teams can compete under fair and secure conditions.

A Milestone Event For Women’s Cricket

The 2025 edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup is expected to be one of the most competitive yet, with top teams vying for global glory. It also reflects how sports diplomacy and logistical adaptability are shaping the future of international cricket.

This hybrid model not only ensures full participation but also highlights the growing significance of women’s cricket on the global stage. As the countdown begins, fans across the subcontinent and beyond can look forward to a month filled with exciting cricketing action and cross-border collaboration — a true celebration of sport, unity, and resilience.
