Amid escalating tensions in West Asia, the Indian Embassy in Iran has issued an advisory urging Indian nationals to avoid non-essential travel to Iran, citing recent security-related developments.
The advisory, shared via the Embassy’s official social media account on X (formerly Twitter), comes in the wake of growing regional instability following a series of military exchanges between Israel, Iran, and the United States.
“In view of the security-related developments over the past several weeks, Indian nationals are advised to carefully consider the evolving situation before undertaking non-essential travel to Iran,” the Embassy stated.
Ongoing Regional Conflict
The advisory follows the fallout from Israel’s “Operation Rising Lion”, launched last month in response to what it claimed were Iranian threats related to its nuclear program. Iran retaliated with airstrikes targeting Israel and a US military base in Qatar. In response, the US launched strikes on three targets in Iran, further escalating the crisis.
While hostilities de-escalated after a unilateral ceasefire was announced by US President Donald Trump, the region remains volatile. Israel maintains that the operation was necessary to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon, a claim that Tehran has consistently denied.
Advice for Indians in Iran
For Indian nationals currently residing in Iran, the embassy advised continued vigilance and adherence to updates from Indian authorities. The advisory added that commercial flights and ferry services remain operational and may be used by citizens wishing to return to India.
“Indian nationals already in Iran, and interested in leaving, may avail the commercial flight and ferry options which are available right now,” the embassy added.
