Indian Railways Asks X to Remove Stampede Videos at New Delhi Station

Indian Railways has issued a notice to X (formerly Twitter) requesting the removal of 285 videos related to the recent stampede at New Delhi Railway Station. The ministry cited ethical concerns and potential risks to public order as reasons for the takedown.

The tragic incident occurred on February 15, when a massive crowd at the station led to a stampede, resulting in at least 15 deaths and several injuries. Many passengers were rushing to board trains to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh festival, causing chaos on the platforms.

In response, Indian Railways has strengthened crowd management measures, including setting up holding areas at key stations to prevent overcrowding. Officials are working to ensure passenger safety, especially during the ongoing festival season.

This move marks one of the first major content takedown actions by the Railways Ministry since it was granted direct authority over online content in December 2024. The ministry has given X a 36-hour deadline to remove the videos, emphasizing the need to prevent misinformation and maintain public peace.
