After a week-long pause due to the India-Pakistan conflict, the BCCI gears up for the IPL restart
Cricket lovers, rejoice! The 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is all set to resume after being paused amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
According to top sources in the BCCI, the tournament will likely resume on May 16, with the final expected to take place by June 1. While a formal announcement is awaited, teams have already been instructed to call back players and support staff.
🏏 IPL Resumes After Ceasefire
The league was suspended following the partial abandonment of the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala, due to security concerns stemming from cross-border military activity. The ceasefire, announced over the weekend, gave the green light for BCCI to begin planning the return.
“Efforts are being made to resume the tournament early,” said BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla, confirming that IPL Chairman and franchise heads are working closely to finalise details.
📍 Venue Changes Expected
The remaining matches are likely to be held across four venues, with Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium prepping to host the first match post-restart. However, Delhi and Dharamsala are out of contention for hosting further matches, and equipment has already been moved out.
Rain forecasts may force the final match to shift from Kolkata to Ahmedabad, sources say.

✈️ Foreign Players Temporarily Exit India
After the temporary suspension, most overseas players flew back to their home countries. RCB, scheduled to play the first game after resumption, confirmed that their players including Josh Hazlewood, Philip Salt, and Tim David have returned but will rejoin once dates are confirmed.
Support staff such as Andy Flower (Head Coach) and Mo Bobat (Director of Cricket Ops) also returned home, with franchises now working to bring their full squads back to India.
“We’re deeply grateful for the swift coordination and support from the BCCI, local authorities, and the police who made this possible,” the RCB statement added.
