A serious issue has come to light in Karnataka, where 48 political leaders—including some key figures—were reportedly targeted in a honeytrap scandal. This was confirmed by Cooperation Minister K.N. Rajanna in the state assembly on Wednesday, March 20.
Minister Rajanna addressed the gravity of the situation, stating,
“Based on the information I have, nearly 48 leaders have been ensnared in this game of CDs and pen drives, which are used to bring an end to their political journeys. Even members of the Opposition have been targeted.“
According to the minister, these leaders were caught in a trap where videos were secretly recorded to blackmail them later. This has created a huge concern in the political circle, and pressure is building to find the truth.
What is a honeytrap?
A honeytrap is when someone is tricked into a romantic or intimate situation and then blackmailed with photos or videos taken without their knowledge.
Government’s Response
PWD Minister Satish Jarkiholi confirmed that he had seen such videos himself, and they were shocking. Home Minister G. Parameshwara also admitted that some complaints had been received and said an investigation is already underway.
Home Minister G. Parameshwara promised a high-level probe.
“We need to save the dignity of our members,” he said.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah promised in the assembly that if the allegations are true, the government will take strong action. He also appealed to everyone not to play politics on such sensitive matters.
BJP’s Allegation
BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal brought up the issue in the assembly, saying that many people have become victims of this scam, and it’s a serious security concern.
