The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Mumbai for Thursday, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall in the city and surrounding regions. The alert follows two consecutive days of downpours that led to flooded roads, submerged metro stations, and disrupted services across Mumbai.
Wet Spell to Continue in Mumbai and Konkan Region
According to IMD, isolated heavy rains are likely to persist across:

The heavy rain activity is expected to ease slightly by Friday, but rainfall will continue on June 21 and 22. The IMD has also forecast showers extending into next week, with Mumbai likely to receive more rain on June 23 and 24.
Metro Disrupted, City Waterlogged
On Thursday morning, several parts of Mumbai, Pune, and Navi Mumbai witnessed heavy and moderate rain. The inundation of low-lying areas and underground metro stations disrupted transport and daily movement, causing delays and temporary shutdowns of certain services.
Powai Lake Overflows
In a significant development, Powai Lake, one of Mumbai’s artificial reservoirs, began overflowing on Wednesday after two days of relentless rain. The lake is managed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) and supplies water to parts of the city. Overflowing lakes are considered an early monsoon benchmark for civic authorities.
