Mumbai is set to welcome a spectacular new landmark—a giant Ferris wheel inspired by the London Eye! As part of its ambitious ₹74,427 crore budget for 2025-26, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has revived the ‘Mumbai Eye’ project, aiming to offer breathtaking views of the city’s iconic skyline while boosting tourism and recreation.
A Dream Taking Shape
The idea of a world-class Ferris wheel in Mumbai has been discussed for years. Initially proposed in 2008 by Shiv Sena leader Ravindra Waikar, and later considered in 2022 at Bandra Reclamation, the project faced delays due to logistical challenges. Now, with a renewed push from the BMC, Mumbai Eye is back on track and closer to becoming a reality.
What’s in Store?
- The Mumbai Eye will be developed through a public-private partnership (PPP), combining government support with private investment.
- The structure will be spread over 2-3 acres, with its final location to be confirmed soon.
- It will feature air-conditioned, glass-enclosed cabins, allowing visitors to experience Mumbai like never before!
