‘No Place for Hate’: Women’s Panel Supports Navy Officer’s Widow Trolled for Peace Appeal

Published:

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has strongly condemned the social media trolling of Himanshi Narwal, wife of Navy officer Lt. Vinay Narwal, who was tragically killed in the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.

Himanshi, who married Vinay just a week before the attack, was on her honeymoon in Baisaran, Jammu and Kashmir, when terrorists opened fire, killing Vinay and 25 others. In her first emotional statement after the attack, she urged the nation not to harbor hate against Muslims or Kashmiris, saying:

“I just want the entire nation to pray for him (Vinay)… and I want peace, only peace. I see people spewing hate — we don’t want this.”

Her heartfelt plea for unity was met with online abuse and trolling, prompting NCW to step in. The commission issued a statement calling the targeting of Himanshi for her views “reprehensible and unfortunate.”

“Trolling a woman based on her ideological expression or personal grief is not acceptable in any form,” the NCW stated on social media platform X.

The panel emphasized that all public expression—whether in agreement or disagreement—should be carried out with dignity, decency, and within constitutional limits. NCW also acknowledged the grief of the nation and added that Lt. Vinay Narwal was “shot after being asked his religion”—a chilling reminder of the targeted nature of the attack.

NCW reiterated its commitment to protecting the dignity and respect of every woman, especially in moments of national tragedy.
