Pop icon Katy Perry has officially joined the exclusive list of civilians who’ve ventured into space. On Monday, she returned safely to Earth after flying aboard Blue Origin’s New Shepard spacecraft, in what marked the company’s 11th human spaceflight—and its first all-female crewed mission.
In a heartfelt post shared on X (formerly Twitter), Perry wrote, “There’s no place like home”, pairing it with a heart and Earth emoji—signaling not only her safe return but a deep sense of gratitude.
A Journey Beyond Earth—and Within
The short but powerful mission took Perry and her crew over 100 kilometers above Earth’s surface, crossing the Kármán line, the boundary recognized internationally as the edge of space. The entire sub-orbital trip lasted approximately 10 minutes, during which the crew experienced weightlessness for a brief period.
Perry described the experience as “emotional, second only to being a mum.” She also sang “What a Wonderful World” during the flight—a moment she later said felt deeply moving and symbolic.
“It wasn’t just a physical journey,” Perry shared. “It made me realize how much love I have to give—and how much surrounds me.”
The First All-Female Crewed Mission by Blue Origin
Katy Perry was joined by a diverse group of accomplished women:
- Gayle King – veteran journalist
- Lauren Sánchez – Jeff Bezos’ fiancée and aviation executive
- Aisha Bowe – former NASA rocket scientist
- Amanda Nguyen – civil rights advocate and Nobel Peace Prize nominee
- Kerianne Flynn – film producer and creative entrepreneur
Together, they made history as part of Blue Origin’s first all-women flight team, symbolizing not only a leap for private space travel, but also for women’s representation in the final frontier.
