Reports suggesting that husbands have been excluded from the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM-KISAN) are incorrect. There has been no rule change disallowing payments to male farmers in cases of jointly-held agricultural land.
Under PM-KISAN, all eligible landholding farmer families receive ₹6,000 annually, paid in three equal installments of ₹2,000 each. The scheme is fully funded by the Government of India, with money transferred directly to Aadhaar-seeded bank accounts.
However, some farmers in Maharashtra have recently reported missing out on the latest installment. Officials point to several reasons why payments may be withheld:
-
Land ownership cut-off date: Farmers who acquired land after February 1, 2019 are not eligible.
-
Duplicate beneficiaries: If both husband and wife, or a child and parent, are registered, the system may flag it for verification.
-
Data mismatches: Errors in Aadhaar, bank account, or land records can block transfers.
-
Mandatory eKYC: Farmers must complete eKYC verification to continue receiving benefits.
Who is not eligible?
Certain categories of higher-income beneficiaries are excluded, including:
-
Institutional landholders.
-
Holders of constitutional posts, ministers, MPs, MLAs, mayors, and district panchayat chairpersons (past or present).
-
Serving or retired central/state government employees (except Class IV staff).
-
Pensioners receiving ₹10,000 or more per month.
-
Income-tax payers in the last assessment year.
Checking Payment Status
Farmers whose installments are on hold can verify their details through:
-
The “Know Your Status (KYS)” option on the PM-Kisan website.
-
The PM-Kisan Mobile App.
-
The Kisan eMitra Chatbot.
Despite these challenges, the PM-Kisan scheme continues to benefit millions across India. The following chart shows the number of farmers who received payments in recent periods.
In Maharashtra, 1.19 crore farmers have benefited from the scheme so far. While some have faced payment delays, officials confirm these are due to verification and data compliance issues, not changes in scheme rules.
