In response to the escalating conflict between Iran and Israel, the Government of India has launched Operation Sindhu, a mission to evacuate Indian nationals from affected regions in Iran.
110 Indian Students Evacuated
As part of the first phase of this operation, 110 Indian students stranded in northern Iran were successfully evacuated. The students crossed into Armenia on June 17, 2025, and later departed from Yerevan on a special flight arranged by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The group arrived safely in New Delhi in the early hours of June 19, where they were received by Minister of State K.V. Singh at the airport.
Randhir Jaiswal Confirms Operation on X
Randhir Jaiswal, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs, confirmed the development on X (formerly Twitter), stating:

“Operation Sindhu brings people home. 110 Indian students evacuated from Iran under #OperationSindhu have safely arrived in New Delhi on a special flight from Yerevan, Armenia.”
He also reiterated the government’s commitment to the safety of Indian nationals abroad.
Official Statement from MEA
According to the MEA, the evacuation was carried out under the close supervision of Indian diplomatic missions in Tehran and Yerevan, with assistance from both the Iranian and Armenian governments.
“In view of the deteriorating situation as a result of the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel, the Government of India has been taking various steps over the last several days for the safety and security of Indian nationals in Iran,” the MEA stated.
The Indian Embassy in Iran is helping citizens relocate from conflict-hit regions to safer areas.
Further evacuations are being planned based on feasibility and available transport options.
Emergency Contacts for Indian Nationals in Iran
Indian citizens still in Iran are urged to stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran and the 24×7 Control Room in New Delhi.
The government reiterated its commitment to the safety of Indian nationals globally, stating that it continues to monitor the situation closely and will take further action as needed.
