In a powerful gesture of patriotism and gratitude, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited the chiefs of all three Indian armed forces to attend the IPL 2025 final in Ahmedabad, dedicating the closing ceremony of this year’s tournament to the bravery of the armed forces during Operation Sindoor.
Operation Sindoor was India’s swift military response to the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, which claimed 26 innocent lives, most of them tourists. The successful counter-strike by Indian forces has since become a symbol of national resilience and unity.
Cricket Bows to Courage
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the decision on Tuesday, stating:
“We salute the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces. Cricket may be our passion, but there’s nothing greater than the sovereignty and security of our country.”
The Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh have been formally invited, along with top officers and soldiers, as honoured guests at the IPL final.
Stadiums Echo With “Jai Hind”
Since the resumption of IPL matches after the Operation Sindoor ceasefire, stadiums across the country have displayed massive banners reading “Thank You Armed Forces” and “Jai Hind”, turning cricket grounds into arenas of national pride.
From Delhi to Mumbai, teams and fans alike have joined in the tributes. During recent matches, players stood for the anthem under banners honoring Operation Sindoor and the troops who led it.
Former BCCI acting president C.K. Khanna applauded the move:
“It’s a gracious and timely gesture by the BCCI. Our armed forces have done the nation proud. We are forever indebted to them.”
Four teams have stormed into the playoffs: Punjab Kings, Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Mumbai Indians. While Punjab has sealed a top-two finish, Mumbai is likely to wrap up the league stage in the third or fourth position.
As fans gear up for the grand finale, it’s clear this year’s IPL will be remembered not just for cricketing drama but for a tribute to courage that transcends the boundary line.
