Palghar Murder: Woman and Lover Bury Husband Under Tiled Floor

Published:

In a shocking case from Maharashtra’s Palghar district, a woman and her lover allegedly murdered her husband & buried his body inside their home. The crime came to light after the victim’s brother discovered a foul stench beneath newly laid tiles.

The Crime and the Cover-Up

The victim, 34-year-old Vijay Chauhan, lived a seemingly normal life with his family. His wife, Chaman alias Gudiya Devi (32), and their two-year-old son live in Nalasopara (East), Palghar. But behind closed doors, a sinister secret was unfolding.

Police say Gudiya was involved in an extramarital affair with their neighbour, Monu Vishwakarma (33). What began as a secret romance soon turned into a deadly conspiracy.

About two weeks ago, the couple secretly planned a shocking crime — to kill Vijay, hide his body inside their house, and disappear without leaving any clues. They dug a 6x2x4 feet pit right in their own home, placed Vijay’s body inside, and sealed it beneath freshly laid floor tiles. With the crime covered up—literally—they disappeared together, leaving no immediate clue of what had occurred.

How the Crime Was Uncovered

Vijay’s brothers were planning to buy a new house and needed his help with the money. When they tried calling him, his phone remained switched off. According to them, Vijay went unanswered for over three weeks. When they contacted Gudiya, she claimed Vijay had gone to Kurla for work but soon after switched off her phone and disappeared.

Suspicious, Vijay’s younger brother Akhilesh visited the home and noticed newly installed tiles along with a foul odour. Upon removing some tiles, the smell worsened, prompting him to alert the Pelhar police.

Police arrived at the house with forensic experts, doctors, and the local tehsildar. Together, they exhumed Vijay’s highly decomposed body from beneath the tiled floor. The remains were sent to Mumbai’s JJ Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Current Investigation Status

Senior Inspector Jitendra Vankoti of Pelhar police station confirmed that the accused, Gudiya and Monu, are currently absconding.

“We have registered a case under sections of murder, conspiracy, and destruction of evidence. Seven teams are actively searching for the accused,” he said.

Police suspect the involvement of a third person in the murder and are continuing investigations. The motive and method of killing are still being verified as part of the forensic and legal proceedings.

The case has shocked the local community and highlighted the lengths to which some go to conceal a crime. While the primary accused remains on the run, authorities are working to ensure swift justice for the victim and his family.
