Prime Minister Narendra Modi held official talks with the President of the Republic of Cyprus, H.E. Nikos Christodoulides, during his visit to Nicosia. This marks an important step in strengthening the strategic partnership between the two countries.
Upon arrival, PM Modi was accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Presidential Palace. In a warm gesture reflecting strong bilateral ties, President Christodoulides had personally received PM Modi at the airport.
Shared Values & Strategic Vision
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to sovereignty, territorial integrity, and the principles of mutual respect. Prime Minister Modi thanked Cyprus for condemning the Pahalgam terror attack and standing in solidarity with India against cross-border terrorism.
India, in turn, reiterated its consistent support for a peaceful resolution of the Cyprus Question based on UN Security Council resolutions and international law.

A decision was made to launch a five-year roadmap to strengthen collaboration in these strategic areas. The two sides also agreed on real-time exchange mechanisms for information on terrorism, drug trafficking, and arms smuggling.
Boost to Economic and Academic Ties
They also welcomed the launch of the India–Greece–Cyprus (IGC) Business and Investment Council, which will foster trilateral cooperation in sectors such as shipping, logistics, renewable energy, civil aviation, and digital services. They discussed expanding air connectivity to promote tourism and business. An MoU was signed to establish an India Studies ICCR Chair at the University of Nicosia, enhancing academic and cultural exchange.
The leaders emphasized the need to reform global governance institutions, including the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Cyprus reiterated its support for India’s permanent membership in a reformed UNSC.
PM Modi also highlighted the potential of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) in fostering regional peace and prosperity. He extended an invitation to President Christodoulides to visit India soon.
A Joint Declaration on the India-Cyprus Partnership was issued following the meeting, marking a new chapter in the enduring friendship between the two nations.
