PM Modi Welcomes Gaza Peace Deal, Backs Trump’s Efforts; Praises Netanyahu’s Resolve

Published:

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday welcomed the historic Gaza peace deal and the release of all hostages held in captivity for over two years, calling it a symbol of courage, resilience, and the power of global diplomacy.

In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi said,

“We welcome the release of all hostages after over two years of captivity. Their freedom stands as a tribute to the courage of their families, the peace efforts of President Trump, and the strong resolve of Prime Minister Netanyahu. We support sincere global efforts to bring lasting peace to the region.”

The announcement comes as the world reacts to the end of one of the most prolonged and devastating conflicts between Israel and Hamas, which began with the October 7, 2023 attacks. During those attacks, Hamas-led militants stormed Israeli towns, killing over 1,200 people, including dozens of Americans, and abducting nearly 250 hostages.

Israel’s military response to the attacks spanned nearly two years, leading to widespread destruction and humanitarian crisis in Gaza. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, more than 67,600 Palestinians lost their lives in the violence.

The Gaza peace accord, brokered through intense diplomatic negotiations, marks the first major breakthrough since the conflict began. The deal has been described as a “critical step” toward restoring stability in the Middle East, though experts caution that deep political divisions and humanitarian concerns remain unresolved.

PM Modi’s statement aligns with India’s long-standing position advocating for peaceful dialogue and stability in the region, while expressing solidarity with efforts led by the international community to bring an end to the suffering of civilians on both sides.
