Prime Minister Narendra Modi has welcomed U.S. President Donald Trump’s renewed leadership in pushing for peace in Gaza, calling the latest developments a “decisive step” toward restoring stability in the war-torn region.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi noted the “positive indications” of the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas, describing it as a significant move toward ending the prolonged conflict. “India will continue to strongly support all efforts towards a durable and just peace,” the Prime Minister stated.
The comments come as President Trump reportedly directed Israel to halt its bombing campaign in the Gaza Strip following Hamas’s announcement that it had accepted parts of Washington’s proposed peace framework.
According to reports, the militant group has expressed willingness to release the remaining hostages captured during the October 7, 2023, attacks and to transfer governing responsibilities to other Palestinian authorities. However, Hamas emphasized that several aspects of the proposed agreement still require broader consultations among Palestinian factions.
The development marks one of the most tangible signs of progress in the nearly two-year-long Gaza conflict, which has resulted in massive civilian casualties, regional instability, and international diplomatic strain.
India, which has consistently advocated for dialogue and restraint in the Middle East, reiterated its commitment to supporting global peace initiatives that uphold humanitarian values and regional stability.
