Pune: A Pune court on Wednesday rejected the temporary bail plea of the father of the juvenile involved in the infamous May 2024 Porsche crash, which killed two young IT professionals in Kalyani Nagar. The incident had sparked nationwide outrage after it was revealed that the 17-year-old was allegedly driving the luxury car in an inebriated state.
The case further deepened when the juvenile’s parents, along with doctors from Sassoon Hospital and several middlemen, were arrested for allegedly manipulating his blood samples to show he was not drunk. While the juvenile’s mother is currently out on bail, his father remains lodged in jail along with the doctors and other accused.
Bail Plea Rejected
Additional Sessions Judge K P Kshirsagar rejected the father’s request for temporary bail, which was sought citing the need to care for his 79-year-old mother, who has been advised spine surgery.
The court said there was “reasonable apprehension of tampering with witnesses” and noted that other family members were available to care for his mother.
Prosecution’s Argument
Special prosecutor Shishir Hiray opposed the bail plea, stating:
“Lumbar spine surgery of the mother is a planned procedure. His father, sister, wife, son, and brother-in-law can take care of her. There is no immediate danger to her life.”
Hiray also highlighted that the medical prescriptions were dated July 7, 2025, and the bail plea was filed the next day, suggesting an attempt to create documentation to seek relief.
Court’s Observation
The court noted:
“There appears no substance in the contention that he, being the only son, is required to take care of her and make decisions about her surgery and medical procedure.”
The court emphasized that the nature of the offence and the risk of influencing witnesses were significant reasons to deny bail at this stage.
Background of the Case
On May 19, 2024, the juvenile, allegedly intoxicated, crashed his Porsche into a motorbike in Kalyani Nagar, killing Anish Awadhiya and Ashwini Koshta, both software professionals. The case drew public anger over VIP treatment, delayed action, and attempts to shield the accused.
The juvenile’s parents and others were later arrested for tampering with evidence, including manipulating blood test samples. The father and several co-accused remain in jail, while the juvenile is lodged in a correctional facility.
